About

URA is located in Brussels and is characterized by a broad spectrum of projects, varied both in scale and function. 'UR'-the name of the first city- supports a way of working. URA searches for universal, basic typologies and transforms them into a contemporary and precise identity in a specific context. The universal lies within the very specific. URA is led by two partners, Yves Malysse and Kiki Verbeeck.

YVES MALYSSE (°1973) [email protected]

The collaboration between architectural office URA Yves Malysse Kiki Verbeeck and visual artist Gabriel Lester led to the winning competition project for the redevelopment of the former concrete factory in the Oude Dokken, a former harbour area in Ghent.

The new complex becomes part of the urban renewal project Old Docks developed by O.M.A. Next to a new housing district, a place for working and recreating is formed underneath and next tot he concrete factory.

URA adds a new volume that dialogues with the environment and the built context. The structure hangs like a ‘cloud’ around and between the existing silos.

The structure consists of vertical walls at various distances from each other. These walls form views to the city. The structure is achieved by using the existing circulation of the silos , along with new elevators and stairs. In certain areas , these walls are interrupted by vistas, focusing on the landmarks of the city of Ghent.
