About

URA is located in Brussels and is characterized by a broad spectrum of projects, varied both in scale and function. 'UR'-the name of the first city- supports a way of working. URA searches for universal, basic typologies and transforms them into a contemporary and precise identity in a specific context. The universal lies within the very specific. URA is led by two partners, Yves Malysse and Kiki Verbeeck.

Offices and pavilion
Foster care Flemish Brabant and Brussels
Leuven (B), 2017-2022
3.500m²

On the corner of a raised private garden, a new office building is erected. The specific condition of the plot is being integrated in the design of the building. From the main street leading to the center of Leuven, the building has a big scale, and shows the superposition of functions. The entrance is combined for both pedestrians and bikes and cars. A compact parking volume is stacked on top, while the lobby is leveled with the garden. From the garden, the office building has the scale of a garden pavillion. A glazed staircase gives access to the floors of the office building, while being in the middle of the trees around the building. In the garden, a second pavillion is placed, around a small collective square for the employees. A distorted gable roofs defines this second pavillion, giving shelter to all collective activities of the organisation. A new set of curtains is integrated by Belgian artist Valérie Mannaerts in this space.
