Educational Campus in Deurne
AG VESPA
Antwerp (B), 2021–2027
13.500m²
URA coordinates the full development of a new educational campus in Deurne, from design to execution, including fixed interior elements. The project combines a double primary school, a secondary school with a technical focus on urban agriculture, and two sports halls that will also be accessible to the neighborhood.
The site’s strength lies in its dual-scale context: a strong street presence along Gallifortlei and connections to the smaller-scale residential project Fabioladorp and a sheltered workplace. The design carefully integrates these elements, ensuring sufficient open space and breathing room, contributing to a balanced and sustainable development.
The program includes multipurpose halls, refectories, science labs, technical workshops, a greenhouse with dedicated classrooms, a library, and an auditorium. A rooftop garden supports the urban horticulture department.
The buildings are strategically placed along Gallifortlei, forming a gradual increase in height that respects the surrounding urban fabric. An architectural accent at the head of the site, facing Gallifort Park, provides a recognizable endpoint. The varied volumes and façade treatments strengthen the identity of the campus and establish a clear address to the street, while minimizing visual and shadow impact on neighboring buildings and creating a green, safe inner courtyard.
